Royal Rumble 2021 was an emotional night for Edge for a multitude of reasons.
On top of winning the match 11 years to the day after he won his first Royal Rumble, he entered at number one and went the distance in his first match since June and only his fourth time in a wrestling ring since retiring in 2011.
Speaking with WWE digital team, Edge explained the surreal moment of winning his second Royal Rumble match after spending nearly 10 years in retirement.
"I assumed that this was all done. So, if you told me four years ago that I’d be in the Royal Rumble going in first and winning it to go to WrestleMania, I still feel like I need to pinch myself or I still feel like I’m gonna wake up."
It was also emotional because Edge’s childhood friend Christian wrestled his first match in the same Royal Rumble after spending seven years on the shelf.
"For Jay to be in there... if you wrote this as a script for Hollywood they’d say, ‘It’s impossible. It can never happen, it’s not realistic,’ yet here we are. I don’t get it and I think I’m gonna stop trying to get it and just enjoy it and stop analyzing it and analyzing 'why', and 'how,' and all of these things and just go ‘fuck it, it’s happening and it’s awesome!' I feel great and I have my best friend back with me again. I’m very happy.”
