Fightful has gained confirmation of a major WWE re-signing.
Last month on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer mentioned that he'd heard AJ Styles re-signed with WWE. Fightful Select was able to confirm with numerous WWE sources this week that deal was made, and some of the details that went into it.
We weren't given a time length, besides the fact that it was a multi-year deal. His original contract was set to expire in the Spring/Summer, and would have had him hit free agency for the first time since leaving New Japan Pro Wrestling. WWE expected Styles to have plenty of suitors, and we're told that as in the case with some other big names in the company, wanted to get Styles' deal extended before he could even hit free agency to talk to anyone else. Styles is said to be very happy in the company, and has mentioned numerous times that he'd like to work for WWE after his wrestling career.
Those that we spoke to said the deal was a big one, with Styles landing well over $3 million a year when all was said and done. Those that confirmed the deal to us said that "he deserved every penny," and "would easily make that back for the company." We're also told that he has some additional bus travel accommodations paid for.
When Fightful asked how much time he has left in wrestling, he said that if something went down that caused him to retire, he'd be very satisfied with what he's accomplished.
