Effy says he wants more believability in professional wrestling.
The star has often been positioned at the top of the world in independent wrestling, winning titles in GCW, Freelance Wrestling, and FEST Wrestling. Furthermore, Effy also frequently performs in promotions like F1RST Wrestling, Glory Pro, and World Series Wrestling.
In a new interview with Indied, Effy was asked to name one wrestling related thing that he wants to bring into 2024. In response, the star noted that he is personally bringing actual believability to wrestling in 2024, explaining that he's been watching a ton of Terry Funk and Cactus Jack as of late.
“I think what we’re bringing forward into 2024, and this is going to sound a little crazy, and this is something I’m personally bringing into 2024, actual believability. I think it’s very easy to watch wrestling shows right now and see everyone who hits their marks, everyone who hits their moments in their promo, everyone hits what the highlight video is supposed to look like, everyone who hits a perfect match, here’s my shine, here’s my cutoff, here’s my turnaround. I’ve been watching a lot of Terry Funk and Cactus Jack and Stan Hansen and a lot of these older All Japan matches and the structure of these matches was very different. There was a believability to these people actually fighting each other, and it didn’t always look clean, and it didn’t always look like things were as soft and safe as they needed to be. Needless to say, if you’re watching me and Mance Warner as this has grows and as he has turned his back on me, if you think that we are pulling back on any punches, you’re a fool. If you think that we are not trying to kill each other, you’re a fool. I want to change the way wrestling looks and if it has to be at the behest of my brother dieing, then so be it, he pulled the trigger on the gun. I think there is a lot of wrestling that is impressive, I don’t think that wrestling is going to bring in new fans because you can look right through it. I always think back to Marc Maron saying, if there is one thing in a movie that genuinely makes me laugh, it’s worth the money and I think that with wrestling. If there is one thing in wrestling where I go, I knew how some of that worked, but I don’t know how the fuck they did that, it’s worth my money. I want more of those moments where you go, I don’t know if that was planned or real, I want to have those real moments of second guessing, even if those fans have been in it for a long time.”
