Gunther has some respect for Honky Tonk Man.

Gunther is currently the third longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all time and is closing in on Honky Tonk Man's record of 453 days as WWE Intercontinental Champion. Gunther would tie Honky Tonk Man on September 6 should he keep the title.

On August 28, WWE will be in Memphis for WWE Raw.

Gunther told Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp that he was not aware that Honky Tonk Man was from Memphis, but if he showed up, he would not deliver a trademark chop.

“I don’t think I would do that. He’s retired. [Sean says he’s never truly retired.] I don’t know. Does he still do the indies? I don’t know. I don’t think I’m in competition with The Honky Tonk Man, so I think it’s alright," said Gunther.

Honky Tonk Man has not wrestled since 2019.

Gunther continued his historic reign by defeating Drew McIntyre at WWE SummerSlam. Pedro Morales is currently the second longest reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion at 424 days. Gunther will tie him on Tuesday, August 8.
