Shoutout to WWE Supercard.
The mobile game, which has been around since 2014, is seemingly as popular as ever. Popular enough to feed the children of Mason Madden and Mansoor for the rest of their lives.
While speaking to Fightful for a new interview, Madden and Mansoor talked about how they still get royalty checks for the game.
MANSOOR: “Let me tell you where we actually make our money, which
is WWE Supercard.”MASON MADDEN: “Shout out to the whales.”
SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Okay.”
MANSOOR: “Shout out to all you losers who play that game—”
MASON MADDEN: “Shout out to DarksidePhil.”
MANSOOR: “—who spend thousands of dollars, probably of your mom’s
retirement money, on this card game on your phone because that is
how we feed our kids. Thank you.”MASON MADDEN: “For the rest of my life.”
MANSOOR: “And I know you’re not like actually giving us the money
because you buy packs and it opens up and if your card is in one of
those packs, you make money.”SEAN ROSS SAPP: “So it’s just random.”
MASON MADDEN: “We’re not rare.”
MANSOOR: “No, we’re common.”
MASON MADDEN: “We’re not rare cards.”
MANSOOR: “We’re common. Thank God.”
SEAN ROSS SAPP: “So yeah, a lot of the WWE contracts are just
structured to include everything now.”MANSOOR: “So you get paid your downside and every time you work a
date, a certain amount of money goes into your bucket.”SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Oh, okay.”
MANSOOR: “Unless you work enough dates and make enough money
and merch to go over your downside, you make no extra money.”SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Yeah.”
MANSOOR: “So we would, no matter—”
MASON MADDEN: “Not to say that the original contract’s great.”
MANSOOR: “I think the downside is very generous.”
MASON MADDEN: “It’s very generous, but it’s designed in such a way
that if you are doing very well on the outside then you kind of still get
what you were going to get.”MANSOOR: “Right. People who, let’s say you’re injured for a year,
you’re still gonna get the same amount of money as you would make if
you worked every week.”MASON MADDEN: “Which is great, thank you very much.”
MANSOOR: “Which is great.”
MASON MADDEN: “We love you.”
MANSOOR: “Yeah, but downsides used to be low and then every time
you worked a date, you’d make more and more and more. But now
that we’re fired—”MASON MADDEN: “Fired!”
MANSOOR: “—we make all that money on top.”
MASON MADDEN: “You can’t say it like that.”
MANSOOR: “Why can’t we say it like that.”
SEAN ROSS SAPP: “Oh, yeah, you can’t say it like that.”
MANSOOR: “Now that we’re fired.”
MASON MADDEN: “Unemployed.”
