MJF: Everything Cody Rhodes Has Accomplished Is Because Of Him, He's Too Humble To Admit That

Cody Rhodes and MJF have a long history together that includes being best friends and then bitter enemies.

MJF was the man who cost Cody Rhodes the AEW World Championship, and future shots at the AEW World Championship, when he threw in the towel during Rhodes' bout against Chris Jericho at AEW Full Gear 2019. The two men would face off at AEW Revolution 2020 with MJF picking up the victory.

MJF has not been shy to mention Cody on AEW television when making references or allusions to possibly leaving AEW when his contract expires at the end of 2023.

Cody was the talk of the wrestling world during WrestleMania 39 weekend as he tried to "finish the story" and capture the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Roman Reigns. Unfortunately, Rhodes' story was left unfinished as he fell to Reigns and the Bloodline.

Speaking to Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp, MJF weighed in on Cody's loss.

"Me and Cody Rhodes, the American Rollercodester, we have a very interesting past. He's been a mentor, he's been a friend, he's been a mortal enemy, all wrapped into a neat cute little succinct bow. I think he came across like a top guy. I think he's transformed his body, much like I have in the past year, but let's be honest, I'm bigger than him and am in better shape than he is. He looked like a top guy, was presented like a top guy, had a top guy outing, had a top guy match. He just didn't win. Unfortunately, some nights, you just don't win. Cody Rhodes is the epitome of putting the work in. Everything that he's accomplished is literally only because of him. He's far too humble to admit that, he'll pretend it's got something to do with somebody else. He got it done himself, and he should be very proud of that. Was I happy to see him lose at Mania? I don't know if I would have been happy if he won (or) lost. The only thing I know is that he had an incredible outing, and it was probably the best match of the entire night," said MJF.

While Rhodes is not the world champion in his company, MJF is the reigning AEW World Champion.

Ahead of WrestleMania 39, Rhodes gave his thoughts on MJF possibly joining WWE. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
