Timothy Thatcher talks about his AEW appearance against Bryan Danielson.
Timothy Thatcher appeared in AEW in a match against Bryan Danielson on the February 1 episode of AEW Dynamite. Thatcher is now reflecting on the appearance and says that he believes the match happened because Danielson recommended that he be brought in for it.
Thatcher spoke to Jeremy Lambert and Joel Pearl on Fightful Overbooked's In The Weeds and recalled how the match came together while he was working for Pro Wrestling NOAH in Japan.
"I’m over in Japan for Pro Wrestling NOAH and because of the time difference, a week before, at one in the morning I get a message, ‘Would you like to wrestle Bryan Danielson on TV next week?’ ‘Yeah, of course I would, but I’m in Japan. How about when I get back to America.’ Thirty minutes go by, ‘What if we fly you from Tokyo?’ Yeah, okay, let me check with the office. I’m working with NOAH, I have jobs for them. I need to be back in time to work their matches.' It sorted out where I flew to Dayton, Ohio for one day, and turned around and flew all the way back to Tokyo, and then had two matches immediately the next two days for NOAH," he recalled. "It’s one of those things where I was very glad it did happen and that was probably based on Mr. Danielson’s recommendation, I don’t think anyone at AEW has any idea about who I am or anything like that. I think that was his idea, which is a wonderful tick to have. We do share the same mentality.
"I went to King of Indies in 2001 and the first matches on the event that I went to was American Dragon Bryan Danielson vs. Doug Williams," he added. "I didn’t want to be a wrestler, I had no thoughts of it, but I remember watching that and going, ‘this is how this is supposed to be.’ To get that match was very important to me and I’m glad it happened."
Danielson is in the last year of his full-time career, making the most of it by competing against dream opponents. However, Danielson doesn't think he will ever officially retire again. Learn more here.
