WWE Money in the Bank changed venues from Allegiant Stadium to MGM Grand, due to low ticket sales.
The move surprised some in the company, as the move to more stadium shows have been a big plan for Nick Khan. One source that Fightful spoke with believed that the company should have waited until at least after Hell in a Cell to see how ticket sales changed, and believed that WWE relied to much on the buzz of simply running a stadium show as opposed to the booking selling the show.
WWE did announce Money in the Bank before UFC announced a major PPV event for the same night, but everyone we spoke to said that either WWE did or should have expected that, as fourth of July weekend has long been a UFC tradition. WWE had told Fightful along the way that they actually had a hold on Allegiant Stadium for the following night as well in case they needed it.
As mentioned, Nick Khan had been a big proponent of both Saturday PPVs, and stadium shows. While one source indicated this would be one of his first "misfires," it was also said by people in the company that they think the show would have ended up selling 20-25,000 tickets by the time the show happened.
In the weeks that followed since the change, Randy Orton and Cody Rhodes have both been sidelined, and Brock Lesnar had to be called back for Summerslam. One WWE source said "well, considering we couldn't have predicted all of that, and the event sold out at the new location, it doesn't look too bad."
We're told WWE was very happy with how Money in the Bank turned out.
