The first bout for NJPW New Year Dash!! is set.

Shingo Takagi, SHO, Great-O-Khan, and Toru Yano will meet in a four-way bout at NJPW New Year Dash!! with the winner taking home the King of Pro Wrestling Provisional Title. The four men were the final four in the NJPW Rambo at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 17, setting up the bout at NJPW New Year Dash!!

Takagi is the reigning KOPW Champion while Yano held the title at the end of 2020 and 2021. The provision championship is defended throughout the year in stipulation matches picked by the competitors and then voted on by the fans. The man who holds the title at the end of the year is crowned the King of Pro Wrestling.

2023 will mark the first year NJPW will use a KOPW Title. Winners have held a trophy in previous years.

The Wrestle Kingdom Rambo featured competitors such as Jeff Cobb, Hikuleo, Taichi, KETNA, EVIL, Tomohiro Ishii, and El Phantasmo, who was the final elimination in the match.

NJPW New Year Dash!! is set to be a mystery card with matches not being announced until entrances are made.
