On Sunday, Kota Ibushi and Hiroshi Tanahashi went one on one after each spent weeks wrestling the other competitors in their G1 Climax blocks. Ibushi defeated Kenny Omega to earn his way into the finals and a draw with Kazuchika Okada secured Tanahashi's place.
The following is an excerpt from the Fightful play-by-play of the finals match provided by David Tees.
Ibushi follows that up by nailing Tanahashi with a lawn dart into the corner, Tanahashi rolls to the ring apron and Ibushi German suplexes him back into the ring. Ibushi hits Tanahashi with a Last Ride power bomb for a near fall, Ibushi then hits Tanahashi with a straight jacket German suplex for a near fall. Tanahashi counters a knee strike from Ibushi with a few Twist & Shouts, Tanahashi lands a dragon suplex on Ibushi for a near fall. Tanahashi crushes Ibushi with a trio of High Fly Flows for the three count.
Winner: Hiroshi Tanahashi
Tanahashi will go on to face the IWGP Heavyweight Champion which is currently Kenny Omega at a future date. Those two wrestlers have only met in a singles match one time which was in a 2016 IWGP Intercontinental Championship match.
