In a statement by Monna Shimada, representative of the project, it is said that "He has certain disabilities, but they are limited to the use of a cane, which you have seen since his retirement, and the use of a wheelchair when he is not feeling well, and the aforementioned risks have occurred. Please rest assured that your life is not in immediate danger. He is working on his rehabilitation and treatment, and is doing very well and staying positive."

NJPW announcer Chris Charlton said, "There *was* a risk had he not been hospitalised but he is undergoing rehab and treatment and there is no immediate danger to his life"

Tenryu, 72, is a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion, a four-time AJPW World Tag Team Champion, and a three-time Triple Crown Champion.

He has competed for all the top promotions during his career, which began in 1976 and concluded in 2015, including AJPW, NJPW, Pro Wrestling NOAH, WWE, and WCW. He had his retirement match in November 2015 against Kazuchika Okada.

Fightful would like to wish Tenryu all the best in his recovery.
