Gunther says he and Roman Reigns are too busy making history and too far apart from each other to have a match.
Both Gunther and Roman Reigns are in the middle of historic title runs.
Roman Reigns has been WWE Universal Champion for over 1,000 days. Gunther, on the other hand, is closing in on breaking the record for the longest WWE Intercontinental Championship reign of all time.
At the Royal Rumble, Gunther outlasted 28 other men before Cody Rhodes came in at the number 30 position to ultimately go on to WrestleMania and fall short of defeating Roman Reigns. In a new interview with Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsCo, Gunther was asked what would have happened had he been the one to go on to face Roman Reigns.
Gunther admits it's an interesting hypothetical but says that right now, both he and Roman are too busy and too far apart to consider a match between each other.
"That's a good question. I think that's an interesting one down the line too. I think right now we're very far apart from each other in what we have to do. We're on different brands. Roman is on this never seen before title reign. I myself, I'm in the midst of making history. So once all that is said and done, we'll see if that's gonna happen," said Gunther. " In terms of the Royal Rumble, yes. It was a very long struggle being in first and then failing at the end, but just by an inch. At the end overall, I think that was a very important night for me in my career, because I think it was very unexpected. So yeah, I think I rebounded very good from that, and we'll see what happens at the next Royal Rumble."
Elsewhere in this interview, Gunther explains why he isn't interested in a match with Seth Rollins where both the Intercontinental and World Heavyweight Championship belts would be on the line. Read more here.
Roman Reigns, right now, is too busy trying to correct course with the fallen Bloodline as a civil war tag team match will headline WWE Money in the Bank 2023. Read more here.
