Gunther always looked at Brock Lesnar as the Final Boss.
After coming face-to-face with Brock Lesnar in the 2023 Royal Rumble, many fans wondered if the two men would ever meet in a singles match. The bout didn't happen in 2023, and Lesnar has not been on WWE programming in 2024 after he was implicated, but not outright named, in a lawsuit brought forth by Janel Grant against Vince McMahon and WWE in January. The lawsuit alleges that Vince McMahon used Ms. Grant in a sexual manner to keep "a world-famous athlete and former UFC Heavyweight Champion with whom WWE was actively trying to sign to a new contract."
Speaking to Alex McCarthy of Daily Mail, Gunther was asked about the rumors that he would have potentially faced Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XL.
"Of course, I heard something about it. I always saw Brock as my final boss. I always get portrayed as that, as the NXT UK Champion, the Intercontinental Champion, I was like the final boss of that division, and Brock, for a long time, was the final boss of the whole company. So I always saw myself in my future to be in a similar position to him, and to be that you've got to get in the ring with that guy. We'll see if there's a chance for it to happen again. I'm more than up for it. How the situation is exactly right now, I'm really not that informed about it, to be honest. I think we had that one face off in the Royal Rumble, the reaction that was there and that was a confirmation for me," he said.
Gunther would end up facing, and losing to, Sami Zayn at WrestleMania XL.
Triple H said after WrestleMania XL that Brock is not gone from WWE. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
