Hiroshi Tanahashi Says G1 Climax Win Exemplifies His Comeback

The Hiroshi Tanahashi comeback is complete.

On Sunday, Hiroshi Tanahashi walked out of Nippon Budokan the winner of the 2018 G1 Climax after wrestling Kota Ibushi in the finals. The victory was the third time Tanahashi has won the coveted tournament and now he will go on to face Ibushi's Golden Lover teammate Kenny Omega. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Tanahashi said winning the tournament months after returning from a knee injury was special.

“That is why the G1 was a special night. That’s why I finished the match with my High Fly Flows. I proved Tanahashi is back," said Tanahashi. "The last two years, my mind thought I was in completely perfect shape but it didn't understand how my body was up-and-down. Now, I made a comeback, a complete comeback from injury. I haven’t had this kind of positive result in my recent fights, so at the moment, I am purely happy,” he continued.

In the interview, Tanahashi also spoke about his G1 Climax finals opponent Kota Ibushi and the IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega.
