James Gunn Says John Cena Made Peacemaker An LGBT Character; HBO Series Gets Renewed For Season 2

John Cena’s Peacemaker is renewed for a second season and James Gunn opens up about how John Cena single-handedly changes the character's sexuality by improving.

Peacemaker made his debut in The Suicide Squad movie in 2021 and in 2022, Peacemaker, played by former WWE Champion, John Cena. The over-the-top vigilante has become quite the favorite of those that have streamed the series and now, it has been renewed for a second season by HBO Max.

During a recent interview with Slash Film, James Gunn revealed how John Cena's single-handedly made Peacemaker bisexual by improvising and opening up the sexuality of the character.

"Peacemaker is an interesting character because he's so fucked-up in so many ways, and then in other ways, he is kind of weirdly forward-thinking. John does improv all the time, and he just turned Christopher Smith into this hyper-sexualized dude that is open to anything sexually. I was surprised by that. But I thought, 'I guess it makes sense that this guy isn't one-dimensional.'"
