Jeff Jarrett Comments On Dusty Rhodes Changing Monty Brown's Direction In TNA, Pivoting To Kevin Nash

Jeff Jarrett talks Monty Brown in TNA.

For the longest time, Monty Brown has been considered one of the biggest "What if?" scenarios in all of wrestling, with many fans believing that he could have been a multi-time world champion during his time in TNA and WWE.

Instead, Brown stepped away from the sport of wrestling in 2007 due to family issues. After getting his release from WWE later that year, Brown retired.

During the latest edition of his My World podcast, Jeff Jarrett was asked to talk about a Wrestling Observer report that stated Dusty Rhodes pulled Monty Brown from the main event picture in TNA and pivoted to a program between Jarrett and Kevin Nash for the title.

“My best recollection was like any person who takes over creative, on the one hand you think, I’ve got to put my best foot forward, I’ve got to make immediate change. Maybe a more wiser owl like Dusty who’s been there, it’s like, okay, let me have a little patience, a little build, let me think this thing out and book as much long-term as I possibly can. I do remember me and Dusty having conversations, and I believe this from the beginning, that the last thing we want to do, not just to Monty but to any talent, is give them the world title when he’s not ready because there’s only one way he can go and it’s down. Having the metrics if you will or the lack of metrics, this is prior to social media, so all of it was really on our gut. Yes, the pay-per-view was the biggest one, but television ratings were almost nonexistent, so you had to go on much more of a gut. So, instead of Dusty cutting off Monty’s water, I’d say maybe he just curbed it a little bit and said, ‘Let me make sure I’m sure when this guy is ready we’ll go with it. Nash, more of an established brand if you will, safer bet early in Dusty’s regime.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Jarrett commented on the official announcement of the WWE/TNA partnership. Check out his full comments on the matter by clicking here.
