Jim Ross explains his call of Danielson vs. Moxley.
Ross was on the call for the AEW World Championship match between Moxley and Danielson at AEW WrestleDream. After the finish of the bout, Ross made the choice to not saying anything and let the heartbreaking moment sit with itself.
On the latest edition of Grilling JR, Ross explained his decision, saying there was nothing he could've added to help sell the moment.
“Sometimes it’s best for one to just lay out. At the end of the match, I was silent because I didn’t know what I needed to say to continue to sell the moment and the fact that Bryan Danielson, by his own word — he said the day he loses the title is the day he’s done — he obviously lost the title, so I take him above any wrestler I’ve ever met at his word. I didn’t know what to say. ‘Why didn’t you say something?’ Not my people, but just some fans. There was nothing I could add that would help it. The pictures and the natural sounds, in my opinion, told the story very well. That’s why I laid out at the very end. I know Excalibur got very emotional, he cried. I didn’t get that far into it but I appreciate his passion."
Ross continued on and praised the match, saying that it told a great story.
“Anyhow, that was a great match. It was a really good match, they told a great story. It was physical, it was intense. If Moxley could bring that much passion out of Bryan, then good for him, it’s not that Bryan is not passionate, but you kind of had to go to a different level and different place with this scenario.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Ross shared his opinion of how Mercedes Mone has been booked in AEW. Check out his full comments here.
