"When I started with the company, I was in a no-win situation,” Cole told Bryan Curtis of The Ringer. “I was brought in to be the heir apparent of probably the greatest wrestling announcer of all time, Jim Ross.”

Cole “got shoved in my chair to take over while I was healing,” said Ross.

It came to a head during the 2008 WWE Draft when Cole was switched to Raw and Ross was moved to SmackDown in a move neither man were told about.

“People didn’t like him from the beginning because they thought he was taking my job,” said Ross.

Ross would eventually move on from WWE and join AEW, while Cole remained the lead announcer on WWE.

"He does his job today better than I did my job then," said Ross.

The feature also revealed that Cole re-signed with WWE in the spring.
