Julia Hart looks back at the evolution of her character.
At AEW Double Or Nothing 2022, Julia Hart turned heel after months of teases and alterations to her cheerleading persona. Since then she has been a key member of The House Of Black, and at AEW Full Gear she would challenge for the TBS Championship in a triple threat match that also featured champion Kris Statlander and Skye Blue.
At the culmination of the contest, Kris Statlander would hit Saturday Night Fever on Skye, with Julia clotheslining the champion off the pinfall attempt to steal the victory, and the TBS Championship.
Following the pay-per-view, Julia spoke at the post show media scrum, discussing her evolution from being a cheerleader to her dark persona within The House Of Black. Hart shared that while she is still learning every week, she feels like she is doing more with her darker character than when she was a cheerleader alongside The Varsity Blondes.
"Being with the cheer gimmick, it was really hard to even take myself seriously. I wasn’t confident and I always felt like the little guy, I still am the little guy, and I’m still learning every week and every time I’m in the ring. I love everybody’s critiques and I appreciate it. I remember coming to the back after my matches as a cheerleader and people would be like, ‘You’ll get it eventually, it’s okay.’ I’m like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing. I’m not confident in myself. I don’t know what’s happening.’ I think it was just finding my darker side to take it out of me. Now, I come back from my matches and people are like, ‘Good job, you’re figuring something out.’ Thank God I’m doing something right now because it was a long path to find me doing something right."
This marks the first championship win of Hart's young wrestling career, as she ended Kris Statlander's reign at 175 days.
