Kevin Owens challenged Roman Reigns to face him for the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the 2023 Royal Rumble match, and it is now official.

Kevin Owens, in recent months, has been a thorn in the side of Roman Reigns and The Bloodline. In truth, Kevin Owens hasn't gotten over the fact that he would have been WWE Universal Champion if not for Paul Heyman and Jey Uso at WWE Royal Rumble 2021.

On that night, Kevin Owens faced Roman Reigns in a Last Man Standing bout, and interference from The Bloodline, a pair of handcuffs, and a referee's decision not to count to 10, ultimately prevented his victory. So now Owens is challenging Roman Reigns to meet him at the same event two years later.

Kevin Owens challenged Roman Reigns to a rematch on the January 6 episode of WWE SmackDown. Roman was in the middle of talking down to Sami Zayn at the time.

Kevin Owens made it clear that Roman's problem wasn't with Zayn; it was with him. Kevin also said he would see Roman at the Royal Rumble and see Zayn if he ever decided to get his balls out of the pocket of Roman Reigns.

Later in the evening, the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship match would be made official for the January 28 event.

This will be Reigns' first defense on pay-per-view since facing Logan Paul at WWE Crown Jewel 2022.
