Kurt Angle explains why he continues to talk about Chris Benoit.
Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit often shared the ring during their wrestling careers. Kurt Angle had already been out of WWE for several months when Chris Benoit committed the double murder-suicide that took his life in addition to the life of his wife Nancy and their son Daniel in June 2007.
While many in the wrestling industry have moved on from speaking about their time wrestling Benoit, Kurt Angle has continued to talk about his rivalry and matches against Chris on his podcast and other platforms.
During a July 27, 2023 Q&A session exclusive to the AdFreeShows platform, Angle explains why he continues to talk about Chris Benoit, noting that he takes the feelings of Benoit's living son, David, into account.
"The thing is, with Chris Benoit, you can't forget he has a son still, okay? The reason why I talk about him so much is because of his son," Angle explained. "He has a living son right now that thinks the world of his father. I mean, he's giving him for what he's done. There's no excuse for what Chris had done, but when you have a living human being that absolutely idolized his father, and you're going to say, 'I don't want to talk about Chris Benoit because he's a piece of shit and what he did to his family is horrible.' What is that going to do for that kid?"
Additionally, Angle said that he still feels Benoit was the best performer he'd ever shared the ring with and does not want to lie about that.
"A lot of times when I talk about Chris, I get negative feedback on social media, but you can't excuse the fact that he was one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. You can't ignore that. It's really difficult to do that. Now don't get me wrong, I don't condone anything he's done, but I know this, Chris was the best in-ring performer I've ever been in the ring with, and I can't lie about that," Kurt said.
David Benoit recently sat in the audience for an episode of AEW Collision. Fans can learn more here.
In the past, David Benoit has considered getting into the pro wrestling ring. In 2014, Chris Jericho stepped in and canceled a planned debut for David. Fans can learn more about that here.
