Kurt Angle: I'm Shocked Matt Morgan Is Not In The IMPACT Hall Of Fame, He Had The Talent To Be

Kurt Angle gives his thoughts on what might have gone wrong with Hernandez and Matt Morgan in TNA.

In 2009, TNA Wrestling was still the promotion for the stars of tomorrow to wrestle against some of the best of all time. Around that time, there was a strong push to elevate Matt Morgan and Hernandez to the next level. Kurt Angle was the top star in the company at that time and competed against both, including a match against Matt Morgan at TNA Bound for Glory 2009.

During a July 27, 2023 Q&A session exclusive to the AdFreeShows platform, Angle gave his thoughts on why Hernandez never stuck around as a main event player, believing that his difficulty with promos, ultimately led to his inability to stay in the mix atop an ever-changing TNA landscape.

"I don't think Hernandez was meant to be a singles wrestler. He always took the back seat to Homicide. Homicide did all the talking. Hernandez didn't really capture that experience of cutting promos. I think if he would have done that, he would have been a huge star," said Kurt.

Kurt Angle is far more firm in his assessment of Matt Morgan, believing that he had a five-star match with Morgan at Bound for Glory in 2009 and saying that Matt Morgan had the ability to be in the Hall of Fame of TNA Wrestling (now known as IMPACT Wrestling).

"Matt Morgan, I don't know what the hell happened with him," said Kurt. " I wrestled him at Bound for Glory one year. The match, whether Dave Meltzer wants to say this or not, was a five-star match. I had a great match with Matt Morgan. I thought really highly of him and I thought he was going to have a really good run in TNA. I'm not sure what happened. Honestly, I know in WWE there was some problems with his attitude. He didn't really have that type of attitude when he came to TNA, so I'm not sure what happened, but I'm really shocked that Matt Morgan is not in the TNA Hall of Fame because he had the talent to be and it's sad that it didn't happen."

Morgan went on to be elected mayor of Longwood, Florida, in 2017. In 2022, he returned for a second term as mayor. His final match to date would be in Longwood, Florida, in 2019 as part of a SCW tournament. Morgan and Deon James would team up to defeat Braydon Knight and Chico Adams.

Morgan recently underwent back surgery. Learn more about that here.

Hernandez still wrestles sparingly on the independent circuit. His last match took place on May 14, 2023, in Mexico for Robles Promotions.
