LA Knight earned a shot at the WWE United States Title on the February 28th episode of WWE SmackDown.
Knight defeated Jacob Fatu and Carmelo Hayes in a triple threat match to be next in line for Shinsuke Nakamura and the WWE US Title.
Fatu took out Hayes with an impaler DDT followed by a jumping moonsault, but Knight pulled Fatu out of the ring and pinned Hayes to take the win.

All three won singles matches earlier in the night to qualify for the triple threat final.
In the semifinal matches, Fatu defeated Andrade with a top rope moonsault and LA Knight finished off Santos Escobar with a BFT. Hayes got through by pulling an Eddie Guerrero, acting like he got hit with a chair and then tossing the chair to Braun Strowman to cause a DQ.
Solo Sikoa was originally announced for the tournament, but he gave his spot to Fatu.
