Before coming to NXT, King went under his real name, Brian Pillman Jr., in All Elite Wrestling and on the independent scene. After officially signing with AEW in 2021, Pillman spent two years in the company where he competed in tag team matches alongside Griff Garrison, as well as various singles matches. After his deal with AEW ended in July 2023, Pillman quickly signed with WWE.
