Join the journey to find a sacred mask in a brand new video game.
Through the years, Lucha Libre Superstars have been featured in many video games. On the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, AAA Lucha Libre even had their own video game, Heroes Del Ring.
Now, Masked Republic has revealed that they are launching a new video game, currently tentatively titled “Project: Mask” and this game will focus less on the in-ring action and more on being a story-driven game that will feature a rich exploration of Lucha Libre heritage, Mexican culture, and authentic luchadores.
“One of the things that we're very excited about is our first step into the video game world. For us to put our foot, as Masked Republic, forward into the video game world, it was really important for us to work with Mexican developers. We want to make sure that this is a very authentic experience and as much as I have been doing Lucha Libre for decades now, there is so much more that could be put on the screen and be able to bring Mexico into our video games that we're very excited about,” said Kevin Kleinrock. “What is currently called “Project: Mask,” is a collaboration between Masked Republic, BC Media Lab, Gamacon, and Hyperkinetic. Without going too much into detail, it is a non-ringed wrestling game, meaning this is not about the luchadores fighting in a wrestling ring -- there are lots of video games that do that, we may even get there one day, but this is more of a story. A story that revolves around a Lucha mask and revolves around traveling to various parts of Mexico where we will be able to explore and show the rest of the world various cities in Mexico, various foods of Mexico, and traditions in Mexico, all wrapped up within this Lucha Libre story.”
He continues, “The idea is that there is a Lucha mask that is going to give some pretty special powers to its sacred owner, and the journey to find this mask is going to take players through the different zones, famous cities, and locations throughout Mexico and also explore Mexican history.”
It was also teased that several luchadores represented by Masked Republic would make an appearance in the game. However, no names were mentioned specifically.
