Matt Hardy could see Edge potentially having his last match outside of WWE.
Hardy and Edge used to be close friends, as they were involved in a number of classic TLC matches throughout the Attitude Era. years later, their relationship soured when Hardy's girlfriend, Lita, cheated on him with Edge. This real-life feud spilled over into WWE, as Hardy and Edge had a bitter rivalry in 2005. Edge was later forced to retire due to injuries in 2011, but he returned to the ring in 2020. The WWE Hall of Famer recently said that, at most, he might have another year left in him at an elite level.
Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, the veteran was asked to share his thoughts on Edge's current run in WWE and whether he could see the WWE Hall of Famer potentially having his last match outside of the company. Hardy noted that the possibility seemed feasible to him.
“I think he’s had a good last run. I’m glad he did get to come back and he was able to recover from that very serious injury, which he had to leave for, for many years. He’s been in great shape, he’s looked good. I thought he’s really produced some quality content, and I like the process, now he’s been helping younger guys too. I feel like he’s kind of in a roll where I’m at too, where he kind of helps build the next generation as well in some ways. I think it would be very feasible for him to actually have his final match outside of WWE. I think that’s something that is possible. It may not. I mean, he may just finish there. I could see him being a guy that was committed. If he says it is his last match, I don’t think he’s going to do like Ric Flair and have five or six last matches, but I could see him finishing up with WWE and maybe having his final few matches somewhere else," Hardy said.
