Matt Hardy Says If He And Jeff Hardy Went To WCW, They Wouldn't Have Went As Far As They Did In WWE

Matt Hardy discusses the possibility of him and Jeff Hardy going to WCW at any point during the Monday Night War.

Matt Hardy and Jeff Hardy were two of the young Superstars who took advantage of the popularity WWE amassed in 1997 and 1998 to catapult their careers and WWE to greater heights in 1999 and beyond. However, WWE was not the only game in town at that time and The Hardy Boyz could have taken the road traveled by two of their friends, Shane Helms and Shannon Moore, to wind up in WCW.

On the latest episode of his Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt Hardy says he would have been intrigued to see how his career turned out in WCW but ultimately, he feels that he and Jeff were in the right place at the right time and would not have been able to go as far as they did when working for WWE.

“I have no idea. They had reached out to us a little, there was nowhere near as much contact as there was with WWE because we were doing enchantment work for WWE and had a relationship with WWE and WWE actually thought that we had potential. We were closer to maybe doing something with ECW, they very much could have been a reality back in 97’ or 98’ish or so, right before we signed with WWE. As far as WCW goes, we never fully got in the loop with them like working and I think they were doing the Power Plant at that time, so that made it a little more difficult because they were trying to pull guys out of the Power Plant to kind of put on their main rosters more than hire outside talent. If we would’ve been in WCW, it would’ve been really interesting to see how we fit in there, it would’ve been really interesting to see how we were utilized. I think we wouldn’t have went as far as we did in WWE because it was very much a scenario of right place, right time, right people with Myself and Jeff, Edge and Christian, and the Dudleys.”

Matt and Jeff Hardy are currently the TNA Wrestling World Tag Team Champions. They were recently interviewed by Fightful's Sean Ross Sapp. Check out that full interview here.
