Matt Hardy: The Structure Of A Cage Match Isn't More Restrictive Than A Hardcore Match

Matt Hardy talks about the differences between putting together a cage match vs. a wild brawl with no theoretical restrictions.

Matt Hardy is no stranger to wild, hardcore brawls. Hardy is perhaps best known for being one of the innovators of the Tag Team Ladder Match and the eventual TLC Matches. However, Matt Hardy has also been in Steel Cage Matches where you're confined to the structure that encloses the ring, changing the overall flow of what fans expect from a Matt Hardy specialty match.

During a recent AdFreeShows exclusive episode of The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast, Matt was asked about the difference between structuring a match within the confines of a cage and a more weapon-heavy wild brawl.

Hardy says that despite the way that Steel Cage Matches are promoted, he doesn't feel that the matches are restrictive in terms of creative, believing that the cage allows you to plan spots that other matches do not.

"I think they're both very similar to put together. I think having different weapons allows you to do things. I think being in a cage. I don't feel like that's these constricting terms. I think there's a lot of things you can do with the cage, you can get creative, and it allows you to be on the ropes and do things off there. I think you can use the cage as a weapon in many, many ways. So I don't think either one of those is ultra-challenging. I think they both allow a lot of different creative ideas. I think you can use both of those in really interesting ways. I think you can tell good stories [with] them. I just think you don't want to be lazy. You want to be creative and really think out of the box in those matches."
