Mick Foley talks the Mandible Claw and Starrcast.
At WWE Raw Reunion, Bray Wyatt emerged as "The Fiend" to choke out Mick Foley with the Mandible Claw. Foley made the move famous with his alter ego Mankind in the mid-90s. Wyatt has continued to use the move, adopting it as the finisher for his "Fiend" character. Speaking to Sporting News, Foley discussed "The Fiend" using the Mandible Claw as an homage to Foley.
"I think that's for everyone to think for themselves. It's all about the follow-up. And I have been very happy with the follow-up as well. I'm really happy to see him using the move and to be shifting gears of that character to make it intriguing and exciting television," said Foley, "The willingness to go from one extreme to another like the gooey, zooey of the Firefly Fun House and willing to embrace that nerdiness which then amplifies the evil nature of the Fiend character."
Foley is set to take part in the Tales of a Hardcore Legend stage show as part of Starrcast III on Aug. 31. In past Starrcast events, those tied to WWE have either not appeared or have been forced to drop out. Foley revealed that he wasn't pressed by WWE to pull out of his appearance.
"I didn't experience any pushback (laughs). No one suggested I don't do it," said Foley. "That doesn't necessarily mean people are happy about me doing it. I agreed to do it. There was no AEW television deal, and WWE hadn't scheduled their television show. Plenty of WWE Hall of Famers had done it before me. So I didn't see it as that big of a deal."
Fans can watch Foley's stage show by ordering the Starrcast III package on Fite TV. Fightful will be in Chicago all weekend for full coverage of Starrcast III and AEW All Out.
