MJF completes first title defense in Arena Mexico.
On the 8/2 edition of CMLL's show "Viernes Espectacular", Maxwell Jacob Friedman made his first title defense of the AEW American Championship against the current CMLL World Middleweight Champion Templario. The match was not only his first title defense, but it was also MJF's debut match for CMLL.
For his debut match, MJF was accompanied by Rocky Romero while Templario was accompanied by KeMalito. After a heated match between the two competitors, the finish came when MJF hit the Panama Sunrise before connecting a Sheer-Drop Brainbuster on Templario for the win. MJF attacked Templario and KeMalito with his belt after the match.

With this win, MJF will defend his title against Will Ospreay on 8/25 edition of AEW All In. Before that match though, MJF will face Kyle Fletcher on the 8/7 edition of AEW Dynamite.
