MJF discusses his first match with Samoa Joe and why it warranted a second bout between the two men.
At AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam earlier this year, Samoa Joe and MJF met with the AEW World Championship on the line in a memorable bout. In the end, MJF would do what he said he was going to do and that was choke out Joe to retain his title. Since then, Joe has made a deal with the champion to gain another opportunity, while making another one with The Devil to make sure the champion is not at 100% for their bout at tonight's pay-per-view, AEW Worlds End.
In a piece for The Players' Tribune, Max discussed a range of topics including his top five defenses of his AEW World Championship reign. One match that he put on the list was the bout back at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
"Joe at Arthur Ashe. I’m putting this one in as a placeholder until Saturday. Joe is a monster, an athletic freak, a legit tough guy in a world full of pretend “tough guys,” a living legend, and this makes no sense but I think he’s the best he’s ever been. And there’s a reason why we had to run that match back with a sequel: It was way too good not to."
On Wedesday's AEW Dynamite, it was revealed that Samoa Joe had been working with The Devil as he turned on MJF, laying him out with a steel char. You can read more about that here.
Elsewhere in the same article, MJF would note that he is tired and he feels like fans are a bit tired of his run also. You can read more here.
