And new.
On the February 28 episode of MLW Underground, John Hennigan challenged Davey Richards for the MLW National Openweight Champion. MLW World Women's Featherweight Champion aya Valkyrie accompanied Hennigan to the ring for the match, and they played a part in the conclusion of the match.
In the closing moments, Hennigan went for the Starship Pain, but Richards moved. The champion was seemingly on the verge of victory as he wrenched Hennigan in a submission hold, but Duran hopped on the apron to distract the referee. Valkyrie then snuck into the ring and hit Richards with her title. Hennigan took advantage of the situation and pinned Richards to win the title.

Richards won the title by defeating Alex Kane at MLW Battle Riot IV on June 23, 2022, though the match didn't air until the November 17 episode of MLW Underground.
Hennigan returned to MLW on the February 21 episode of MLW Underground, where he aligned with Duran and Sam Adonis. Duran then set up a title match between Hennigan and Richards.
