Naomi returned at WWE Royal Rumble, bringing the glow back with her. On the following episode of WWE SmackDown, Naomi stepped to and stepped on, SmackDown Women's Champion Bayley.
Naomi has been "feeling her glow" since 2016 when she first debuted the new persona. And speaking to Essence, Naomi revealed the inspiration behind the gimmick.
“I was always inspired by the story of Bruce Leroy and how he didn’t initially believe in himself but the glow and the power was in him the whole time. He just needed to believe it. It reminded me of so many spaces I’ve been in where I was ‘the only’ and felt like I needed to adapt to what everyone else was doing instead of just walking to the beat of my own drum," she said.
Elsewhere in the interview, Naomi stated she always knew she wanted to be an entertainer, performing dance throughout her childhood with an ambition of being on Broadway.
Naomi took her glow to the next level as SmackDown Women's Champion in 2017 when she had a custom glow championship. In a prior interview, Naomi stated she hopes to bring back to glow title, should she become Women's Champion once again. You can find her full comments by clicking here.
