Nicholas Jackson Says He Misses When AEW And NXT Competed On Wednesdays, 'It Makes You Feel More Alive'

One-half of the Young Bucks talks about the former Wednesday Night War between WWE NXT and AEW.

When AEW Dynamite first launched in October 2019, it competed with WWE NXT, which had started airing on the USA Network in September of that year. The weekly competition was short-lived, as NXT would transition to Tuesday nights in April 2021.

While the weekly competition was not as heralded as the Monday Night War Between WWE Raw and WCW Nitro, it inspired everyone to elevate their game as much as possible. Nicholas Jackson is now reflecting on that time, saying he sometimes misses the weekly competition because it gave performers a spark that made them feel alive.

“Absolutely,” said Jackson in an interview with Justin Barrasso for his Undisputed Substack when asked if he believes that WWE loading up its upcoming NXT shows is a compliment to the threat of AEW. “Competition breeds excellence. One thing I actually kind of miss is when we’d battle it out weekly on Wednesday nights. It was exciting, seeing who would have the better night. It makes you feel more alive.”

NXT will once again face AEW on October 8, when AEW airs Title Tuesday for one week only.

NXT will be loading up its show as Randy Orton will compete in an NXT ring against Je'Von Evans. Learn more about that here.

The Young Bucks will defend the AEW World Tag Team Championships against Kyle Fletcher and Will Ospreay at AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam. Learn more about the card here.
