Nigel McGuinness returned to ROH Wrestling at ROH Final Battle, answering Lee Moriarty's open challenge for the ROH Pure Championship.
McGuinness is a former ROH Pure Champion and retired the title when it was unified with the ROH World Title in 2006.
This was Nigel's first bout in ROH since 2009. It was also his first match at Hammerstein since 2009. He was undefeated at Hammerstein coming into the match.
Moriarty would successfully defend his ROH Pure Championship, submitting Nigel and giving him his first loss at Hammerstein.
