Oba Femi wasted little time cashing in his NXT Men's Breakout Tournament contract to defeat Dragon Lee and win the NXT North American Title on the January 9 episode of NXT.
Lee had just defeated Lexis King in the main event when Oba declared he was exercising his contract. Oba won with the last ride powerbomb.

This marks the first reign as NXT North American Champion for Femi. He won the men's breakout tournament by defeating Riley Osborne in the tournament finals at NXT New Year's Evil.
Lee won the title at NXT Deadline from Dominik Mysterio. He made four successful title defenses.
