Pete Gas Says Shane McMahon Gave Him A Key To Train At WWE, Explains How MSP Debuted On WWE TV

The Mean Street Posse (Pete Gas, Rodney, & Joey Abs) were real life friends of Shane McMahon, who became WWE stars during the Attitude Era.

Though they were often used as shields for Shane and beat up at every turn, they did hold gold, with each winning the WWE Hardcore Title.

Speaking on Rasslin, Pete Gas explained how the Mean Street Posse came to TV.

"Rodney and I always trained at the WWE. Shane had given us keys to the building. We could go in there, any time, day or night. We had been working out. Shane knew we were always there, whether he saw our car or walked by in passing going to the gym. He said to us one day, ‘Friday, come to my office around six, I have to ask you guys for a favor.’ He said ‘favor.’ We go there, and he’s talking, ’I need you to do me a favor. Sunday morning, around 10, I want you to go to the studio and meet Chris Chambers, and I want you guys to dress preppy. Here is the script. [Rips up a piece of paper]. Bump the script, I want you guys to talk about how, when we were younger, getting into fights, smashing mailboxes, all that stuff I did. We’re going to cut it up, and you guys are going to be on Monday Night Raw, we’re going to start showing some vignettes. Rodney comes to my house, long story short, we drink a 12-pack of beer each, and go up to the studio. We had never done anything like that before. We knew the world, but when you’re on camera, it’s different," he said.

Though they were released by WWE in June 2021, Gas continued to wrestle and wrote an autobiography Looking at the Lights: My Path from Fan to a Wrestling Heel.

Elsewhere during the interview, Gas revealed that he had to be the "rough looking" member of the Posse. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
