Petey Williams Thinks X-Division Ten Years Ago Was More Special

Petey Williams says the X-Division still has the same athleticism as always.

The two time X-Division Champion Petey Williams first wrestled for Impact Wrestling (formerly TNA) in 2004 and was an established part of the X-Division until 2009. He wrestled alongside X-Division pioneers like AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Christopher Daniels, and Jay Lethal.

As part of the old guard and still involved with the division now, Williams told Sportskeeda in an interview that the old X-Division had something beyond pure athleticism.

"I will say no. I think we're still rebuilding the X Division. You look at the X Division back then and it was new. You look at the X Division in 2018 and that's the style now. Athletically, it's still great," said Williams. "It's just that the X Division, ten years ago, you thought of it and you're like 'The X Division! That's special.' Now it feels like everybody's doing that style now so it's not as cool as everybody else who's doing it. But people have to remember, we started that style that you're seeing," he continued.

On July 22nd at Slammiversary XVI, the X-Division Champion Matt Sydal will defend his Championship against Brian Cage. In the interview, Williams talked about the importance of larger athletic guys like Cage in the X-Division.
