Dr. Phil Carroll Astin, III, has passed away at the age of 67.
Born in Carroll County, Georgia, on September 27, 1954, Astin is best known to those in the wrestling community as the personal physician of Chris Benoit. After the tragic double murder-suicide that left Benoit, his wife, and his young son dead in June 2007, Astin was sentenced to 10 years in prison for illegally distributing prescription drugs to patients.
He was sentenced in May 2009 after pleading guilty earlier that year to 175 counts that including illegally distributing prescription drugs.
Fightful has learned that Dr. Astin passed away from a heart attack on Friday, June 24.

The family of Nancy Benoit filed a wrongful death suit against him.
Astin was later convicted of illegally distributing prescription drugs to some of his patients.
Astin graduated medical school from St. George's University in Grenada. He and his late father, Dr. Astin, Jr., practiced internal medicine together in Carrollton for many years and was currently working for Cowart Industrial Services.
He is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.
