The end of a recent Ring of Honor IPPV strongly suggested Cody Rhodes would be feuding with Dalton Castle, and the angle continued the following day, but was used more as a way to write Castle off of television.
Castle is currently dealing with a back injury that will require him to take significant time off, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. The end of the August 19 show helped set up Castle as the next challenger to Cody's Ring of Honor Championship. Ring of Honor shot an injury angle on August 20 where the Bullet Club attacked Castle there, beating him down to create the injury angle that would explain his absence and allow them to go back to the feud with Cody When he returns.
Cody defended the ROH title at the August 19 show in the United Kingdom against current New Japan Pro Wrestling star Sanada. Cody will now be defending his title on the September 22 pay-per-view against NEVER Openweight Champion Minoru Suzuki.
Castle is a former Ring Of Honor World Six-Man Tag Team Champion alongside The Boys. According to the Observer, Castle had been dealing with back problems for months and got so bad that the decision was made for the injury angle to take place.
