The National Wrestling Alliance is set for major cuts to its production and roster according to a new report.
Per a new report from Nick Hausman at Haus of Wrestling, The Billy Corgan-led NWA is expected to make cuts to its roster and various production elements, with one source even telling the outlet that cuts "are expected at every corner." Reportedly, the promotion will be cutting its hair and makeup department budget in half as an example of one such change coming.
Also, the upcoming NWA tapings at the Robarts Arena in Sarasota, Florida will mostly only have contracted talent appearing with the only exceptions being Mike Knox and Violent J of the Insane Clown Posse.
Talent cuts are expected following the January 2024 television tapings. Additionally, the NWA will no longer be having talent fly in the day before shows and therefore the NWA can save money on hotel costs. NWA has been paying for flights and hotels for talent, something that has been considered an incentive for wrestlers to work for the NWA as compensation for lower pay as compared to more well-known companies.
The reported reasoning for these cuts is due to Billy Corgan funding the NWA out of pocket for years with “little to no sponsorship money coming in.” The report also notes that Billy has spent "millions" on NWA Powerrr and the reported NWA reality show, and therefore, these cuts are expected to help the promotion continue to operate at a comfortable level.
The promotion has had a tumultuous number of weeks with reports that they had signed television agreements with the CW Network undercut by WWE NXT signing a deal to appear on the network beginning in October 2024. Reportedly, a segment on the recent NWA Samhain pay-per-view which saw James Mitchell and the Miserably Faithful appearing to snort cocaine, caused the network to reconsider airing NWA on television.
Billy Corgan has remained insistent that the promotion has signed two television deals with a top 20 TV network. Fans can read his comments here.
