AEW Dynamite (4/24/24) Results: Jon Moxley vs. Powerhouse Hobbs, Swerve Strickland Competes, More

AEW hosted its latest episode of AEW Dynamite on Wednesday, April 24, 2024.

This week's episode is the first AEW Dynamite following the inaugural AEW Dynasty pay-per-view on April 21.

El Phantasmo Comments On Making His NJPW Return After Treatment For Tumor

This week's episode features AEW returning home to Daily's Place in Jacksonville, Florida, and will be headlined by Jon Moxley defending his newly won IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Powerhouse Hobbs.

New AEW World Champion Swerve Strickland will also be in the house as he faces Kyle Fletcher in an AEW World Title Eliminator.

New FTW Champion Chris Jericho will address the Jacksonville audience, as will new TBS Champion Willow Nightingale.

AEW Dynamite (4/24/24) Results

- The show starts with Jack Perry and The Elite entering the building. Security tries to stop the former Jungle Boy but Matthew and Nicholas Jackson say he's with them.

- Chuck Taylor heads to the ring to make his decision. Orange Cassidy came out first and he was followed by Beretta. Trent attacks Cassidy. Trent says that he's sorry... That he didn't turn on Cassidy sooner. Chuck Taylor acts like he's going to hug Trent. However, he calls Trent a piece of shit. Chuck then challenges Trent to a fight in the parking lot.

* AEW World Championship Eliminator: Swerve Strickland (c) def. Kyle Fletcher

- Thunder Rosa is interviewed by Renee Paquette backstage. The interview is interrupted by Deonna Purrazo and the altercation quickly turns into a shoving match before they're separated by security.

* Mina Shirakawa def. Anna Jay

- Post-match, Anna attacks Mariah May and Mina before they can celebrate. Toni Storm comes out to save Mariah. Serena Deeb then comes out to say that she wants to face Toni for the championship next.

- It's revealed that Jack Perry and Tony Khan will meet face-to-face in the ring later.

- Willow Nightingale AEW TBS Title celebration gets interrupted by Mercedes Mone. Willow said she wants to beat Mercedes at 100% to prove her worth. Before Mercedes can walk away, Statlander grabs her arm and this leads to Mercedes slapping Willow and chaos ensues before they're separated.

* Casino Gauntlet Match: Will Ospreay def. Penta El Zero Miedo, Komander, Kyle O'Reilly, Dante Martin, Jay White, Jay Lethal, and Lance Archer

- As a result of his victory, Will Ospreay will now challenge Roderick Strong for the AEW International Title at AEW Double or Nothing. After the match, Roderick Strong came down with all the members of the Undisputed Kingdom to confront Ospreay.

- Chris Jericho, complete with the new theme song and Titantron for The Learning Tree gimmick, comes to the ring to address Jacksonville. He has strong words for Taz, Katsuyori Shibata, and HOOK. He says HOOK should have listened to him because everyone who comes through the Jericho Vortex comes out better on the other side. Big Bill comes out and says he wants to be under The Learning Tree. Jericho says he's been a fan of Bill for a long time and will be watching him to see if what he says is true and if he's a good fit for The Learning Tree.

- Don Callis is backstage scolding Will for not being more vicious in the ring with Kyle O'Reilly. He says Powerhouse Hobbs is about to win championship gold for the family.

* IWGP World Heavyweight Championship: Jon Moxley (c) def. Powerhouse Hobbs

- Hobbs appeared to hurt himself on a suicide dive attempt and was checked out by the doctor after the match.

- Katsuyori Shibata reveals that he will face Chris Jericho for the FTW Championship next week under FTW Rules

- Jack Perry and Tony Khan come out for their public face-to-face. Jack Perry says that the only thing he's ever wanted is what's best for AEW. He asks Tony to reinstate him. They embrace and as they are celebrating, Perry punches Tony in the stomach. Matthew and Nicholas Jackson and Kazuchika Okada come out. They appear to scold Perry at first. They tease hitting the EVP Trigger but Okada convinces them to hit the Meltzer Driver instead. The show goes off the air with the elite celebrating as wrestlers and more check on Tony. Tony's dad, Shad Khan, was also there.
