WWE Raw Results For 10/16 - The Tag Titles Are Defended, A Steel Cage Match & A Surprise Return

Taz Returns To Commentary At AEW Dynamite On 34th Street


- The show starts off with highlights from The Shield reunion last week on WWE Raw.

- WWE Raw GM Kurt Angle makes his way to the ring and he has a microphone in hand, Angle first talks about how The Shield are reunited. The Shield make their way to the ring through the crowd, Reigns grabs the microphone and he threatens Angle. Rollins grabs the microphone and he gives a little history lesson on The Shield, Rollins says he is proud to be back with his brothers and The Shield is better than ever.

Ambrose grabs the microphone and he says the battle lines have been drawn for WWE TLC, Ambrose says nobody fights harder than The Shield. Ambrose challenges The Shield’s WWE TLC opponents to come to the ring. Braun Strowman, The Bar, The Miz and Curtis Axel come towards the ring and Angle says there will be no physical contact.

- Elias is in the ring with Karl Anderson and Doc Gallows, they perform a song for the crowd, but are interrupted by their opponents.

Elias, Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows vs. Apollo Crews, Titus O’Neil & Jason Jordan

The match begins with Gallows working over O’Neil with strikes in the corner, O’Neil changes things up by attacking Gallows with strikes of his own. O’Neil then knocks Gallows out of the ring with a clothesline, a brief brawl breaks out between everybody in the ring as we go to a commercial break. We return from the break to see Gallows dropping Crews with a kick to the head, Elias tags in and he attacks the back of Crews with strikes. Crews recovers and he drops Elias with a running boot to the face, Anderson tags in and Crews still manages to tag Jordan in.

Jordan quickly starts cleaning house on the opposing team, Jordan catches Anderson with an overhead release suplex for a near fall. Everybody hits the ring and they take each other out of the match, Crews nails Anderson with his sit out power bomb for the three count.

Winners: Apollo Crews, Titus O’Neil & Jason Jordan

- An Asuka highlight video airs.

- Renee Young interviews Emma backstage, Emma says she is sick of hearing about Asuka and she says the attention should be focused on her. WWE Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss arrives and she agrees that Asuka hasn’t done anything on the main roster, Bliss says the younger stars are the future and she wants Emma to team with her and Emma agrees.

- A video package plays showing the alliance between Brian Kendrick and Jack Gallagher, then their rivalry with Cedric Alexander.

Cedric Alexander w/Rich Swann vs. Jack Gallagher w/Brian Kendrick

The match begins with Alexander kicking Gallagher in the face before landing a springboard clothesline, Alexander then drop kicks Gallagher out of the ring. Gallagher goes for a dive and Kendrick distracts him, the distraction allows Gallagher to jump Alexander from behind. Gallagher then uses his feet to rake the eyes of a downed Alexander, Gallagher slows things down further by holding Alexander in a chin lock. Gallagher collides with Alexander before nailing him with a drop kick, Gallagher then attacks a kneeling Alexander with some kicks.

Gallagher follows the kicks up by twisting the head of Alexander, Alexander blocks a kick to nail Gallagher with a back elbow strike followed by an enzaguri. Kendrick distracts Alexander again and Swann nails him with a DDT, Alexander nails Gallagher with the Lumbar Check for the three count.

Winner: Cedric Alexander w/Rich Swann

- The Miz, The Bar and Curtis Axel make their way to the ring for an edition of Miz TV and tonight’s special guest is Braun Strowman. The Miz says that The Bar will win the WWE Raw Tag Team Titles tonight, Sheamus says The Bar will shatter The Shield into pieces. The Miz also promises to put Roman Reigns through a table at WWE TLC, The Miz then brings Braun Strowman to the ring. Strowman tells everybody that he would’ve shattered The Shield by himself tonight, Strowman promises to tear The Shield apart until they are gone forever.

Strowman also says that Reigns won’t be able to run from him tonight in the cage match, The Miz says that since Ambrose said The Shield can beat five guys, then they will face 5 opponents. WWE Raw GM Kurt Angle makes his way to the ring and he tries to stop a fifth member from being added to their team, Angle says if Strowman defeats Reigns tonight…then The Miz’s team gets a fifth member and if Strowman loses, he is off The Miz’s team. Angel then bans everybody from ringside for the two matches involving The Shield tonight.

Sasha Banks vs. Alicia Fox

The match begins with Banks smashing the face of Fox on the mat, Banks applies the Bank Statement and Fox gets to the ropes. Banks knocks Fox out of the ring and Fox drops her on the top rope as she gets back in the ring, Fox then catches Banks with a tilt-a-whirl back breaker for a near fall. Fox slows things down by holding Banks in the chin lock, Banks breaks free and she catches Fox with a high cross body. Fox recovers and she quickly drops Banks with a forearm strike, Fox reapplies the chin lock to a downed Banks. Banks breaks free and she quickly locks Fox in the Bank Statement to force a tap out.

Winner: Sasha Banks

- Enzo Amore is shown walking backstage.

- Charly Caruso interviews Sasha Banks, but Alicia Fox jumps her before she can speak and she Fox throws Banks into the equipment backstage until officials come to the rescue.

- Enzo Amore makes his way to the ring while doing his usual business on the microphone, Enzo airs the footage of Kalisto defeating him for the WWE Cruiserweight Title. Enzo says he was robbed of his WWE Cruiserweight Title by a corrupt Kurt Angle, Kalisto makes his way to the ring. Kalisto says that Enzo can blame whomever he wants for losing the title, but he will have no excuses when they meet again at WWE TLC.

Enzo says he has more money that Kalisto and he has earned the money because he is a star, a few of the 205 Live roster members jump Kalisto from behind.  Mustafa Ali makes his way to the ring and he takes out some of Kalisto’s attackers, Enzo jumps Ali from behind and his friends attack him as well. Daivari takes out Ali with a short arm clothesline, Enzo then finishes Kalisto off with the Jaw Donezo before trash talking on the microphone again.

WWE Raw Tag Team Title Match

The Shield (Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose) (Champions) vs. The Bar (Sheamus & Cesaro)

The match begins with Ambrose mauling Sheamus with stomps in the corner, Ambrose then attacks Sheamus with some chops. Sheamus catches Ambrose with a few blows until Ambrose tags Rollins in, Cesaro hits the ring before getting knocked out of the ring by The Shield. Sheamus battles Rollins in the ring before Cesaro drops Rollins with a clothesline as Sheamus distracted the referee, we go to a commercial break and then return to see Sheamus wrenching on the arm of Rollins. Sheamus releases Rollins to nail him with the Irish Curse for a near fall, Cesaro tags in and he works with Sheamus to hit Rollins with a double side kick.

Cesaro briefly works Rollins over in the corner before getting another near fall, Cesaro blocks a Rollins tag by nailing him with a knee strike. Rollins catches Cesaro with a back body drop, Sheamus tags in and he double teams Rollins with Ceasro for a near fall. Sheamus stands Rollins up before attacking him with a series of strikes, Rollins fights back before sending a charging Sheamus into the ring post. Cesaro tags in and Rollins knocks him to the arena floor, Ambrose tags in and he immediately cleans house on the opposing team. Ambrose drops Cesaro with a neck breaker after landing a forearm strike, Ambrose eventually sends Cesaro out of the ring.

Ambrose takes out Cesaro with a suicide dive and Rollins does the same to Sheamus, Ambrose gets Cesaro in the ring before landing a diving elbow drop for a near fall. Sheamus hits the ring and he nails Rollins with a back breaker, Ambrose recovers and he knocks Sheamus back out of the ring. Sheamus tags in and he works with Cesaro to hit Ambrose with a modified Hart Attack for a near fall, Rollins hits the ring and Cesaro knocks him out. Cesaro tags in and a four way brawl breaks out in the ring, Rollins hits Cesaro with a knee strike and Ambrose nails him with a Dirty Deeds for the three count.

Winners: The Shield (Seth Rollins & Dean Ambrose), still your WWE Raw Tag Team Champions

- In the locker room, Curtis Axel is giving a pep talk to The Bar, Axel says he will be named the fifth partner if Braun Strowman wins tonight. Braun Strowman walks in and Axel gives him a pep talk as well, Axel says he wants to fight Roman Reigns right now and Strowman tells him to go find Reigns. Axel seems scared before Strowman and The Bar gang up on him, Axel storms off to find Reigns.

- Highlights from last weeks reveal of Sister Abigail air.

- Finn Balor makes his way to the ring and he has a microphone in hand, Balor says the Balor Club is here tonight in Portland. Balor admits that he doesn’t know what to think about the Sister Abigail reveal, Balor says he has his own tricks like Bray Wyatt does. Balor promises to slay the monster with a demon of his own, Balor transforms into the Demon a few times.

- Another Asuka highlight video airs.

Emma & Alexa Bliss vs. Mickie James & Bayley

The match begins with Bliss tagging Emma in after taking a few swings at James, Emma grabs James and she holds her in a headlock. James takes Emma down with an arm drag before tagging Bayley in, Bayley and James work together to hit Emma with a double elbow drop. Emma traps Bayley in the corner before tagging Bliss in, Bliss works over Bayley in the corner with some kicks. Bayley recovers and she nails Bliss with a stunner in the ropes, the competitors start arguing on the arena floor as we go to a commercial break.

We return from the break to see Emma holding Bayley in a chin lock, Bayley tries fighting back and Emma quickly drops her. Bayley gets angry and she smashes the face of Emma into the turnbuckle multiple times, Bayley then hits a downed Emma with a sliding clothesline followed by a knee drop. Emma recovers and she drops Bayley neck first on the ropes before getting her out of the ring, Emma then shoves Bayley into the barricade. Emma gets Bayley into the ring while getting a two count on a pin attempt, Bliss tags in and she slaps Bayley in the face.

Bliss drags Bayley to the ropes before choking her on the middle rope, Bliss slows things down by holding Bayley in a chin lock. Bayley breaks free and Bliss drops her with a clothesline, Bliss mails Bayley with kicks while James argues with the referee. Bayley sends Bliss into the ropes before tagging James in, James quickly cleans house on the opposing team. James nails Bliss with some kicks followed by a flying forearm strike, James then hits Bliss with a neck breaker. James follows that up by nailing Bliss with a flapjack, James goes to the top rope and she catches her with a top rope Thesz Press. James catches Bliss with a kick to the face for a three count.

Winners: Mickie James & Bayley

- Curtis Axel is shown backstage and he finds The Shield as we go to a commercial.

- The Bar and Braun Strowman are talking in the locker room with The Miz, Miz says he has no doubt that Strowman will beat Roman Reigns tonight. The Miz wonders where Curtis Axel is and he is told before he goes searching for him.

- Charly Caruso interviews Mickie James, James says that Alexa Bliss comments have hurt her feelings and she is proud of what she has accomplished in the wrestling business. James talks about being a mother to a three year old son and she wants to bring home the WWE Raw Women’s Title to her kid.

- Backstage, The Miz finds a beaten Curtis Axel hung upside down on a forklift.

- The steel cage is shown being lowered into place for the main event.

- Curtis Axel is being attended to when Renee Young asks The Miz about Axel competing at WWE TLC, The Miz reveals Axel was never the fifth man for the team.

Steel Cage Match

Braun Strowman vs. Roman Reigns

The match begins with Reigns attacking Strowman with a few punches, Strowman tosses Reigns across the ring before nailing him with an avalanche. Reigns recovers and he shoves Strowman into the cage wall, Reigns then tries dropping Strowman with a few clotheslines. Strowman charges at Reigns and he winds up crashing into the ring post, Reigns attacks Strowman with clothesline strikes in the corner. Strowman drops a charging Reigns to get a near fall as we go to a commercial break, we return from the break to see Strowman throwing Reigns into the cage wall a few times.

Reigns tries escaping the cage and Strowman prevents him from doing so, Strowman charges at Reigns and he winds up crashing into the cage wall. Reigns gets up and he assaults Strowman with a variety of strikes, Reigns then hits Strowman with a Samoan drop for a near fall. Reigns looks to escape the cage and The Bar arrive to climb the cage to distract Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins arrive to battle The Bar. Strowman grabs Reigns and he drags him back into the cage to land a superplex, The Miz follows The Bar and The Shield brawling backstage before trapping all of them backstage.

Strowman looks for the power slam and Reigns escapes by landing a bunch of strikes, Reigns tries escaping the cage again and Strowman follows him up the wall. Strowman knocks Reigns to the mat below by landing a few headbutts, Strowman tries escaping and Reigns crotches him on the top rope. Reigns then hits Strowman with a series of superman punches, Reigns catches Strowman with a third superman punch for a near fall. Kane’s music plays as Reigns nails Strowman with a spear, Kane comes from under the ring and he nails Reigns with a series of choke slams. Strowman hits Reigns with a power slam before Kane lands a tombstone pile driver, Strowman hits Reigns with another power slam for the three count.

Winner: Braun Strowman

After the match, The Miz announces Kane as the fifth member of his team at WWE TLC.
