Rey Mysterio On WWE Return: "I'm Just Waiting On Them"

For those fans awaiting a return to WWE for Rey Mysterio, Jr., the luchador says that coming back is in the hands of the company.

Rey updated his status with WWE during a live interview conducted at Starrcast the day after All In. Audio from the interview was aired during the latest episode of Jim Ross' podcast, The Ross Report.

"I'm just waiting on them to say, 'Now,' " Mysterio told Ross. "If they say now, and the time is right, let's go."

Mysterio made a surprise return for WWE at the Royal Rumble in January, and ended up being one of the final six men in the match. It was his first on-screen appearance for WWE since the April 7, 2014, episode of Raw, where he lost a singles match to Wade Barrett.

Mysterio told Ross that return started with "an anonymous call"  and culminated with a return that was "a big surprise to a lot of the fans", to the point where fans still bring it up at every signing and meet and greet he does.

"That worked out really well and that just started the whole conversation about possibly making a return," said Mysterio, who came back again three months later as part of the 50-man field for the Greatest Royal Rumble but hasn't been back in WWE since. "The longer it extends, the more I keep getting work outside. That's my bread and butter, that's what I do for a living."

That outside work included Mysterio's first-ever appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling -- and his first match for the company at Dominion in a six-man tag match. Mysterio also headlined All In, teaming with Fenix and Bandido against the Young Bucks and Kota Ibushi.

"To be able to start off a year with the Rumble, unexpected, and then moving on to the Greatest Royal Rumble and then still, for the first time, doing my show in New Japan, which that was checked off of my bucket list," he said. "I'd never been there before and I was very excited and pleased to be there for the very first time. The year's not over yet. All In, first time, history. I just felt like I've been in the right place at the right time."
