Road Warrior Animal is well over a decade removed from his latest WWE run, but he doesn't think the WWE tag division is in any better shape.
When speaking to Hannibal TV recently, the WWE Hall of Famer assessed the tag team divisions -- currently split in two due to a brand extension -- and had some harsh words for The Ascension.. and virtually everyone else.
“I don’t mind Big Cass, the guy that does the New York gimmick. They’re pretty good and kind of funny. They need to learn how to wrestle first. Everybody asks me about the new guys that Paul Ellering’s with. Really great teacher, that’s all I’m going to say. They got a lot of polishing up to do before they even think about going up to WWE, and the WWE knows that and that’s why they’re not there. The Ascension needs to quit trying to be the Road Warriors. They’re never going to be the Road Warriors. No way, shape, form, build, action, wrestling will beat Road Warriors. Leave it alone -- that’s my advice to them, just leave it alone! If they were doing the gimmick I wouldn’t try and copy them. I don’t care what the office would say, I’d say look man that ain’t right. The Road Warriors are in a league of their own, why can’t we talk about it?" said Animal.
Road Warrior Animal last competed in WWE in 2012, defeating Heath Slater. He made a TNA appearance in 2007 in a losing effort, and had a successful WWE run between 2005 and 2006, which saw him capture the the WWE Tag Team Championships with Heidenreich.
