Ring of Honor announced a surprise ROH World TV Championship and then delivered the first round of the tournament on July 27.
Stokely Hathaway, ROH Board of Directors member, announced in front of Samoa Joe that Joe would be facing the winner of an Eliminator tournament for his Ring of Honor World Television Championship.
During this backstage segment on July 27, Joe still appeared to be in complete control of Stokely Hathaway despite Stokely technically being an authority figure.

The tournament's opening round would take place in four matches on July 27. Christopher Daniels defeated JD Drake to advance. Meanwhile, Gravity advanced by defeating Anthony Henry, Tony Nese advanced with the victory over Cheeseburger, and Shane Taylor advanced by defeating Serpentico.
ROH has not announced what the semi-final bracket looks like for the tournament.
