Though Rusev hasn't been seen too often on WWE television as of late, he has remained active on social media.
Recently, a fan asked The Bulgarian Brute how he feels about Shane McMahon taking up so much television time. The Miz cut a promo on SmackDown running down McMahon for taking away opportunities from other wrestlers after proclaiming SmackDown to be "the land of opportunity" when he was the Commissioner of the brand.
Fightful Select recently reported that "There is a growing sense of frustration backstage in regards to the amount of time being put into the Shane McMahon push."
Rusev doesn't seem to mind the push for one obvious reason.
I’m not. It’s normal. He is the bosses son. https://t.co/kbkEUTqAPL

Another fan liked Rusev's comment, finding a WWE employee "dunking" on the company to be rather cool. Rusev responded, clarifying his contractual status.
I’m not an employee .... https://t.co/b9N6XQ9wVz

Rusev is classified as an Independent contractor and not an employee of WWE. He is currently taking time away from the promotion and, aside from appearing in the 50-man battle royal at WWE Super ShowDown, has not wrestled since a May 17 live event.
