Shawn Michaels: We Wanted To Present Veer And Sanga As Classy, Nice Guys Instead Of Wrestling Tropes

WWE Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels wants to avoid wrestling cliches by presenting Veer and Sanga as classy guys in NXT.

Veer recently returned to NXT, and he has been forming an alliance with Sanga. The two powerhouses previously teamed up together as Indus Sher, and they have reunited on WWE's third brand. Sanga has been featured on NXT as a guru of sorts, as he often offers advice to others. Meanwhile, since his return, Veer has been showcased with a drastically different character than the dominant monster fans saw during his run on WWE Raw. On NXT TV, both men dress in suits, whereas Veer was a typical foreign heel throughout his time on Raw.

Speaking on a media call ahead of NXT Halloween Havoc, Michaels discussed the duo and complimented Sanga's intelligence. He noted that the NXT team wanted to put him in a new light by focusing on his charming nature rather than relying on the stereotypical monster villain fans are used to seeing. He stated that they applied the same idea to Veer when he moved over to NXT. Michaels emphasized that Veer and Sanga are classy gentlemen, and he wanted to lean on that side of their character.

"I guess the main roster took Veer and had certain plans for him. We had Sanga down here and when you get to know him, he is an amazing, intelligent, bright man. What we were putting him on television doing is who he is. We found that to be captivating because he’s a huge man, but he’s charming as all get out. We were like, ‘Let’s just do that.’ How long have we done the ‘he’s angry and beats everybody up.’ It appeared that what they were doing with Veer, so when the opportunity came that he was coming back to NXT, we just didn’t want to do that. Whatever they call ‘wrestling tropes,’ I’m of the cloth that if you’re not changing and evolving, if you’re standing still, you’re going backwards. They are both such clean, classy, sharp, really nice guys. We wanted to present them that way. They’re really classy and we thought, ‘let’s do that and present them as who they are.’ I’m not going to give you the whole skinny on what we’re doing, but I think we have something pretty cool and fun, but we wanted it to come in the package that it currently is, which is who they are," Michaels said.
