Shawn Spears Says He Pitched To Be In 2024 WWE Royal Rumble, Was A Little Late

At NXT Vengeance Day on February 4th, a mysterious vignette aired teasing a man of three faces.

The vignettes led to the return of Shawn Spears, who re-debuted on the February 27th episode of NXT when he attacked Ridge Holland.

Spears had departed AEW at the start of the year, announcing his free agency on January 1st.

Speaking to Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Spears revealed that he pitched to be part of the 2024 WWE Royal Rumble.

"I shot my shot. I was a little late. I was too late. It was too tight of a timeframe once everything had to be settled and finalized. It was tight. Things evolved and it was a last minute thing. Royal Rumble is a massive event every year for WWE. I just missed the bar. I shot it out there and they were like, 'Urgh, things are done and things are set.' I was just down the street and I was ready, just in case. I had stuff made up just in case. Always be ready so you never have to get ready," he said.

Spears, who wrestled under the name Tye Dillinger, left WWE in February 2019 after his release request was granted.

Spear is currently part of the NXT roster.
