Sheamus talks Edge's last WWE match.
As it currently stands, Edge competed in his final WWE match on the August 18, 2023 edition of WWE SmackDown, facing Sheamus in singles action. Shortly after, Edge made the transition to Adam Copeland and debuted in AEW.
Sheamus has talked about the match in high regard in the past, but as it turns out, that match almost didn't happen. While speaking with Chris Van Vliet for a new interview, Sheamus revealed that he thinks Damian Priest was originally set to face Edge in his last WWE match.
"It was something we talked about. We talked about doing a angle or storyline together for a while. We came up with a storyline, but it was shot down for whatever reason. Then, it just happened. I got a call...we did the promo a week before and the match the week after. Edge’s contract was coming up. No one knew if he was going to stay or go. I didn’t know. I thought he was going to stay because we talked about doing something after that as well. I think, originally, Damian Priest was penciled in, but then it turned to me. I don’t know how it happened, I was really surprised when it did happen. It was exciting because me and Edge had never had a one-on-one match."
Elsewhere in the interview, Sheamus revealed the length of his new deal with WWE. Check out his full comments here.
Sheamus is set to face off against Ludwig Kaiser on the January 13 edition of WWE Raw. The current lineup for the show can be found by clicking here.
